I want to do an audio only broadcast but would also like to have a slide viewed rather than a blank screen. How can I do that?
Thanks.

Hi,
You can use for example our Producer software.
In Producer you can click on the "Microphone" icon to stream only audio.
If you want to have a slide/picture instead of a blank shot, you can simply drag and drop an image into your Producer. Click on the picture and make sure you have your audio source picked.

This isn't exactly a question related to ustream but it certainly relates. I set up a Skype call using my built in camera on my macbook air...I can then import that shot of the person I am speaking to into ustream and it works perfectly.
One small issue...the person I am calling on Skype can't see me. This isn't a deal breaker but it would be great if they could see me. I set up a separate usb camera as a shot within upstream. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks so much.

That is what I assumed. My question is with bandwidth. Will UStream broadcast the video?
We tried tests last year with wireless Internet. All test failed because the wireless Internet was not fast enough to overcome latency when broadcasting video.
If we could just broadcast the audio, I believe that problem will resolve itself.
Also, on the same subject, when we broadcast the video and audio some in the audience wanted the option to shut off the video to enjoy the program on their smartphone. Is there a way for a viewer to shut off the video and just receive the video? -

HeyRubino,
What is the bandwidth (upload) like at your broadcast location? You can test it here:

Audio Only Mode on Android: Our Engineering Team is looking into this. You can find the latest information on this thread:

The bandwidth is variable at each location. The first question concerned the upload bandwidth in the following regard:
If I am only broadcasting audio, does the video (ie a black screen) automatically get broadcast?-
Yes the black screen is broadcasted if you are broadcasting an audio only broadcast in the web broadcaster. You can use Ustream Producer and broadcast an image. You can download producer here:

I do have Producer. That is not the most efficient way to do it as most facilities we tape at do not have high-speed Internet for us. We tested some wireless last year and all the wireless Internet tests failed for streaming video. I expect that if we just streamed audio that the wireless Internet would be sufficient. Not sure if there's video streaming too. Guess we have some more tests to run.
