When will Watershed Customers have access to the HTML5 embed or simply have knowledge of the link to the http stream we can publish so iOS device viewers can view streams on their mobile devices. I notice this is a new option for Ustream Free users.
I get asked no less than 3 times a week by our viewers and broadcasters alike when will we be able to offer them iOS friendly streams. This will be a HUGE addition to the WS suite and seems a "no brainer" in an effort for Ustream to "keep up" with the competition as all competitors in this arena are already offering it
Thanks in advance !!

Hi Chuck,
I can't comment on when this will be available on Watershed but I recommend checking out our new product, Ustream Pro Broadcasting. It offers almost all Watershed features and adds features requested by many. One of them is iOS transcoding.
Hope this helps!

The question still remains, when will Watershed catch up with Ustream on what services it provides to the Watershed Customers. A new HTML5 embedable viewer is now a MUST HAVE if i wish to remain with Watershed. I have sent several emails to Watershed support but have not gotten any reply back. If someone could tell me from them what their plans are, as I don't see any upgrades to Watershed since i joined and am not happy with the non-existent service. Please don't point us back to Ustream for the features we want and need. We pay for Watershed, and we should have the same or better support for it as free Ustream users have.

Hi Leung,
As I said we currently can't promise on a delivery date of any feature on Watershed. Right now our focus is on Pro Broadcasting - due to popular demand from our customers - which we believe is a superior product to Watershed even right now in almost any way.
We realize our customer support is not ideal at the moment, but in this year we are also focusing on revamping it to provide world class service. I kindly ask for your patience if you did not receive any response from us. -

In terms of some feature sets, Pro Broadcasting is better than Watershed. However, as far as I can tell Pro Broadcasting is not a replacement for Watershed. The reason we need Watershed is because it allows us to use the platform as a service. Our requirements include (not necessarily in this order):
1. embeddable on our site (both viewer and broadcaster)
2. ability to use or create a customizable viewer and broadcaster
3. support 1,000s of viewers simultaneously
4. can record and download recordings (programmatically)
5. private
6. simultaneous streams
7. global CDN
8. pricing for large bandwidth volume
9. audio/video stream customizations (size, quality); even variable rate/quality?
10. html5
Watershed meets almost all of these requirements. Can you please supply us with information on how Pro Broadcasting can provide these features? After a fair amount of research, I keep coming back to Watershed because it seems to be the only viable stream platform-as-a-service option out there. It would be a shame to not focus on this product to some extent when no one else in the market is really doing the same thing. Any help you can provide is much appreciated. -

My Watershed account costs roughly $50/month. For me to switch to Ustream Pro, I'm looking at at least $500/month. Ustream Pro is not a viable solution to replace what and how I use Watershed for.
Watershed seems like a forgotten unsupported product, and if this is the case, I wish to be grandfathered into Ustream Pro at the same rates and services.
Please support your loyal, early adopter customers that helped you form a solid foundation for your company.

I must concur with the earlier accounts of our experience with Watershed and the practically non-existent support. If this is a 'Premium Platform' then why does it have such substandard support and a lower tier of service offerings than Ustream Pro? If you have upgraded the experience and product mix of Ustream why couldn't your development efforts migrate, update and scale these improvements to the Watershed Platform? Are they that technically divergent? Basically, you guys need to get on the 'JOB' with this one and no more simple, 'Please be patient with us', replies. Give us a timeline for improvements or refer us to the Product Line Manager in charge of Watershed so we can under their Product Lifecycle for this platform.

Mark, it is not an acceptable solution to migrate from a service that costs $50/month, to one that costs $1,000 per month for comparable private embedded streaming.
-
We realize that. We are working on a plan to make the migration over to Pro Broadcasting a better deal. Once we are set, we will let our Watershed customers know about the new possibilities and the deal.

Mark,
We are not the smallest user (probably 20,000 hours a year) and we are looking at no other choice but to go to Livestream, which offers iOS support for about $100 a month more than the $179 we pay - if you guys are letting watershed die and only want large customers ( $1000 a month for Pro is not for small to mid size offering) , let us all know, so we can move on to Livestream - my customers are demanding-
Hi taschultz,
We are continuing to support Watershed and maintain it's services as I mentioned previously. However we focus currently on Pro Broadcasting and adding new services and capabilities to that product. This is why I cannot tell right now if and when we will add iOS streaming support to Watershed.
As for the pricing, I realize there is a significant difference between the Watershed and Pro Broadcasting offerings, but we believe Pro Broadcasting adds much more value and power to white label broadcasters.
I understand that price is a sensitive issue and indeed Livestream offers great service but our two companies are very close in terms of pricing if you happen to look for the same amount of features. Of course if you only look for white label broadcasting and iOS support, you might get a better deal from Livestream. I'm sure you looked at all options carefully so you will make the best decision for your business. If I can help any further, please let me know. -

Thanks for your honesty - as someone who has 30+ years experience in the software space, has been a Product Manager, and run Product Management and Marketing in three companies I understand:
Watershed is a dead end product - it will be supported, but the future is for Pro Broadcasting , so no enhancements for Watershed. The pricing model says you are looking, even at the low end, only mid to medium size companies in the future (those who $5-15k a year is not an issue) so small guys are out. So Watershed , whose ASP is probably around 1K a year does not make your enough profit, or even cash flow. So it does not get resources. Cannot blame you, Sadly, I have done the same thing to my small customers when we grew....
Sadly for all of we small guys - 5k seems to be the price point per year all vendors in this space are driving towards..
Thanks again - We've been with you guys for over two years, and will be sad if we have to leave

All I can say that we are working on possible ways internally to not leave Watershed customers who want more features in the cold, but I cannot comment on it publicly yet nor promise anything at this point.

Here's my 2 cents also. I have more customers asking for IOS support. I'm with everyone else in this forum who does't want to leave, but may have no other option with the current pricing models for Ustream Pro vs. Watershed. (Which really bums me out).
Hopefully this issue will be resolved before I can find another provider.-
We are working on an option which hopefully will solve these issues. Thank you for taking the time to let us know your concerns. I assure you and everyone this is top priority for us.
Thanks,

Mark:
I am another voice echoing the need (as well as present solution set - leaving Watershed) for allowing iOS users to access our content. We are not able to continue ignoring our iPAD/iPhone population. -
