A couple of questions:
1. What camera is compatible to livestream with a 2009 macbook pro?
2. How do I get the "scoreboard" overlay function to work?

Hi,
1. The best rule is always to test out your equipment.
Here are some super helpful articles about how to get started on Ustream:

2. What scoreboard are you referring to? -

I just ordered a Sony HDR-CX210/S... My Macbook does have a firewire port. Is there a cord I can get to simply connect the camera through the firewire? I have been searching and have found that this is both possible and not possible...
For the scoreboard, I have downloaded the ustream producer app for Mac. When I open it, sign in to my account, under the "camera +" tab on the far left of the window, under the live video feed box, it has an option to "Add Untitled Scoreboard Shot". It has a "STU" in light grey next to it, so I assuming it is a feature of one of the upgraded (paid) products. I was able to use it for a trial with a watermark on the screen... But when I entered info on the scoreboard, it did not show up on the live stream.
I have attached a screen shot of the option in the producer...
I also attached a screen shot of the "start demo" pop up...
Here is a screen shot of the "scoreboard" editor option up... Here it looks like it might be a second screen, separate from the video feed. Is there a way to overlay the scoreboard onto the video so the video can be playing while the scoreboard is showing (like a tv basketball game)?
Thank you for all the help!!! -

Hi,
Do you have a Firewire DV output on your camera?
As for the second question: Did you run the Studio version trial?
To overlay you would have to use the Picture in picture (PIP) feature which is available on the paid version of Producer. -
-
Yes, the camera does have a firewire DV output. Do I simply need a firewire cable that will connect directly to the computer, without a conversion box?
I figured out how to set up the scoreboard, so it overlays on the main video stream... Is that feature part of the "pro" upgrade or the "studio" upgrade?
Thank you again for all your help! -

Hi,
You will need the firewire cable, I don't think you will need a conversion box. It is always recommended to do a test broadcast before you go live.
As for the Producer question: the scoreboard feature is a Producer Studio feature. -
-
Ok, I will test it out once the camera arrives...
One last question, I see it says you are an employee...
Is there any discount for the studio version for a high school employee, teacher/coach for use of streaming athletic events, like in this case basketball games?
Thank you! -
-
Hi,
Unfortunately we don't currently offer discounts for educational institutions. -

Ivana,
First of all, thank you for all of your help.
Second, do you offer a payment plan? I am very interested in the studio version of the producer software, but do not currently have the funds in my basketball account to make the purchase.
Thank you. -
-
Hi,
I am sorry but we don't offer payment plans. -

Just some advice on using the Ustream scoreboard---you have to update it manually after each basket made. It's easier to get a cheap USB webcam and point it at your scoreboard. Layer the scoreboard on top of your main video. Shrink it and crop it off so it's only showing the time and score in the lower corner of the screen.
