Watershed as a service will shut down on April 10, 2013 and will be merged into Ustream Pro Broadcasting. You can read all about the reasons for this change and what this means here. If you are an active Watershed broadcaster, we encourage you to upgrade to Ustream Pro Broadcasting as soon as possible to ensure uninterrupted service. With our easy migration tool, you can move all your Watershed content to Ustream and start taking advantage of the improved feature set, robust platform and ease of use that Ustream offers, all at the same price you pay for your current Watershed plan.
Why upgrade to Ustream Pro Broadcasting?
- Full iPhone, iPad and Android playback compatibility for live and VOD
- Robust Real-time Analytics with the Ustream Analytics Console
- Compatibility with Ustream Producer and many other Ustream Certified encoders
- Ability to do Pay Per View events
- and much more...
Customers may continue using Watershed until April 10, 2013. Beginning April 11th, 2013, customers will no longer be able to use the service. This includes: accessing your Watershed account, the Watershed API, broadcasting, analytics, and recorded videos. All embedded players hosting Watershed content will no longer display live or recorded video.

Hi Mark:
Will I still be able to embed the player in my website when I migrate to ustream pro from my watershed account?
My username is livemauiwebcasts
Please let me know. Thanks.

Will we retain our current storage and viewer hour quotas under the new plan?
-
Yes, viewer hours, storage and overage fees are the same.

Mark, the annoucement above says "all at the same price you pay for your current Watershed plan." Does this mean we will continue to pay $49.00 per month for 500 viewer hours? The email that I received did not mention migrating at the same price.
-
Yes. Active Watershed customers are entitled to retain their plan they are subscribed to at the time of the migration. All the monthly fee, included viewer hours, storage and overage fees are exactly the same.
This is a special offer and only available to existing Watershed customers if they choose to migrate to Pro Broadcasting.
Hope this helps to clarify things,

Mark,
I have started the mirgration of my channels from my Watershed account. But when I try to logon in Ustream it can not find any account. And the login information from Watershed does not work.
How am I to access my channels for broadcasting?
Also will I still be able to use my Tricaster for broadcasting like Watershed.
Jeff

Pls. reply so I can keep this account going.-
Hi Jeff,
I just tried to log on with your account and it worked perfectly. Maybe you mistyped your password. Can you please try to ask for a new password? Just click on this link: https://www.ustream.tv/forgot-password
To answer your question on Tricaster: Yes, Tricaster is an officially supported device for broadcasting on Ustream. -

One more thing, each time I go to the Watershed and check on the migration it does not show that it did any migration?
Also I do not see anywhere I can contact Tech support in order to get my answers, it only brings you to a FAQ page and it does not have the answers need.
Jeff-
I logged into Watershed with your account (med211) and it shows that the migration to the Pro plan is complete. It is now waiting for you to map your channels to Ustream channels.
Please log in to Watershed and continue by setting up this mapping and pressing "Migrate". -

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the correspondence regarding migrating Watershed customers to Ustream Pro broadcasting. I am now looking at this as an option and I have a question regarding the following FAQ answer . . .
"Our existing Watershed customers are entitled to the same pricing and overage fees on their Pro Broadcasting subscription they currently have on Watershed."
Please let me know -
Exactly how long does this policy of same subscription fee for Pro broadcasting last?
and
Is there anything else I need to know regarding ongoing fees and subscription price increases?
Leo-
Hi Leo,
Here's how it goes. If you migrate, you get the same price you have now on Watershed. There is no limit on how long you stay on your special priced plan. However you do not have the option on your Pro Broadcasting account to upgrade and downgrade between special priced (Watershed-like) plans. You can upgrade or downgrade of course, but only to public Pro plans.
Also when the migration happens, we bill and charge you for the first term of your new Pro plan. We also give you an extra free month on Watershed after your current one. So you should have enough time to migrate over all your videos and learn to confidently operate Pro Broadcasting before closing down your Watershed account. After the extra free month, your Watershed account is terminated.
Hope this explains the process. -
-
Thank you that explains everything. Appreciated Mark.

Mark:
I have been a Watershed customer for several years and have really enjoyed the control I have over the content I am streaming to my private clients. I run a hurricane news and information site and generate most of my revenue from subscribers who watch exclusive live content during the hurricane season.
I have one very important question in regards to the new Pro pricing plan: once I migrate over to Pro, will the plan include the ability to keep my private channels private without having to upgrade to Pro Standard or Enterprise? I have content that is intended only for subscribers of my site. If I cannot keep those channels hidden and not allow embedding on other sites, then my entire business model is shot and I will not be able to afford to keep streaming ad-free to my private clients. It does me no good if my private content would become available for anyone to view, share and embed at will.
Thank you,
Mark S.

Mark - I just went in to migrate over to Ustream Pro and it did not allow me to choose a new username. I see I was charged my first payment for the new service immediately but I am not sure what has happened. I really want to keep my two channels separate if possible. Please advise. Thanks!
-
-
BTW - it was really strange, none of my current "hurricanetrack" channels were in the list to migrate to. Not sure what has happened so I'll wait to hear back before messing with things.

Hi Mark,
I had/have the same issue. In sum, yes, it can remain a private channel. You can create two channels (or more) if you want, and keep one of them private and another public. When you migrate your videos from Watershed, you can select which Ustream channel the selected Watershed video channel(s) are going to.
Once on Ustream, each of the channels have a particular privacy setting. Go to the Dashboard, then the particular channel you want to make private, and then the Embed window (left menu: Channel -> (Channel Name) -> Embed).
Check the box for "Restrict the URLs where your channel can be embeded" and enter in the text box any of the URLs which have the permission to broadcast from Ustream.tv, such as http://www.hurricanetrack.com/* and https://www.hurricanetrack.com/*. The asterisk permits any subfolders and sub-files to play the Ustream videos.
Also check the box for "Do not display channel on Ustream.tv site."
Use the iframe code from the bottom of that page to replace the Watershed channel embed code that you've been using.
I would start the migration soon, and then start replacing the embed code with the corresponding iframe code. The Mac-fans could then view the videos on their iphone or ipad.
Also, I'm not certain about the date for Watershed's deprecation, but I believe it's April of 2013. After that, I'm uncertain as to whether the old embed code will even work. The "Embed" configuration for the channel that I described has a check-box at the bottom for "use the old embed code instead." I'm assuming that if you do want to make use of the iframe code, you'd probably need to find the iframe code for each video and use it to replace the embed code(s) that you currently have on your own website for the video archives.
In other words, I'd get on the migration soon, in order to handle the more time-consuming task of replacing the embed codes with the iframe codes before April, 2013. At least until the Watershed deprecation, both the iframe and the embed codes will work at the same time, so the new videos can be using the iframe from the new Ustream.tv, while the old videos are still using the embed codes from Watershed. -
-
By the way, after you migrate the videos into the private channel, be sure to unlock/unhide all of the videos. I'm not sure if Ustream fixed that bug, or whether they consider it a bug, but any time I made a migration attempt to a channel, it would lock all of the videos. Then, on my own website, the videos (whether using the old embed code or the new iframe code) would display a message saying that this site doesn't have access to the video you're trying to watch.
I solved this by going to the channel's video list on Ustream.tv, and do a quick sweep by checking the box next to each video on a page, and then making those videos public or visible. Then click on page 2, and do the same, until all of your pages & videos have been covered. It only takes a few minutes, and you only need to perform it each time you migrate (or attempt to migrate) videos from Watershed. Note that the privacy settings on the embed configuration for that channel will override the privacy/viewability setting for the individual videos. In other words, while you may think that you're making a particular video public to the Ustream community, you're really only making it viewable on your own website (if the embed settings are as I described in my previous comment). -

I have been trying to migrate our existing watershed account with the migration tool and it says to contact technical support. I've sent a support ticket and received a response on Monday that said "We will look into your account migration within a couple of days and I will get back to you when the migration is complete." I would like to know the status of this migration because we're ready to start using the new system before Sunday to get familiar with it. Our watershed username is lifepointchurch

Yes, indeed, it's on it's way. I haven't heard back from the engineering team yet, but I will ping them about your account today.

Is there any IP Lock option if I migrate my Watershed account?
Also, the IP Lock option is currently not working in Watershed, is this going to be fixed?
Lastly, how do I create a topic in this Watershed forum, is it closed to new topics?
Rgds
Dushy Squirt-
Hi,
There is no such option available in Pro Broadcasting however we can set up such a lock for you manually.
Btw I just checked and the IP lock on Watershed works perfectly. Can you elaborate on the issue? Can you try again?
You can always select the Watershed product in the new topic creation page (http://community.ustream.tv/ustream/t...), on the right side ("Related products / service" section).
Best,

Mark,
I setup the IP Lock for 5 IP addresses, ie, only those 5 were in the IP Lock list. I ticked the IP Lock check box and saved the changes. Then I asked some viewers who were not in the IP Lock list to try to view the stream and they were all able to view the stream?
It is as though the IP Lock list is being ignored and not implemented, that is the only reason I can think of whereby viewers not in the IP Lock list can access the stream.
This is an important point for me and if I cannot get it resolved I will regrettably, probably end up migrating to another provider. -

Mark,
We are using Watershed in Japan and trying to migrate our existing Watershed after we log-in to our Watershed account at: http://watershed.ustream.tv/, but we can't find the "Migrate My Brands & Channels" button anywhere. We only can see the following.
Please contact us via email (japan@ustream.tv) to introduce our special Pro Broadcasting offer.
We sent an email to japan@ustream.tv and got an answer. They said that they have a specail plan for existing Watershed customers, but the pricing is not the same. Then we submitted support tickets at :https://www.ustream.tv/support-ticket, but we haven't received any response about that yet. Is it impossible to upgrade to Ustream Pro Broadcasting in Japan? Is there any other way for upgrading? Our watershed username is media_links.
We greatly appreciate any information you can provide.
Satoshi-
Hi Satoshi,
Since your account and business is on Ustream Asia's territory, you can only subscribe to the plans in Japan. I suggest to open up conversation with our Japanese colleagues.

We are in need to migrate from Watershed to Ustream. After migration, will we be able to use the "broadcaster embedding" feature we have on watershed? We need to be able to embed the broadcaster on our website so that we do not need to login to ustream website in order to broadcast the video. This functionality is available on Watershed. This is the most important feature to us - please advise!
-
Hi,
We are working on a solution to have this capability with Pro Broadcasting as well but I cannot give you a delivery date yet.
If you wish to participate in the beta program for these features, I suggest you talk to our sales team as in it's current form it is only available to VIP customers.
Here's the contact form for our sales: https://www.ustream.tv/platform/unlim...

Unfortunately that requires a manual process at the moment.
-
-
Does that mean I would have to provide IP Lock updates to USTREAM to get them to update the IP Lock list or would I be able to edit and update any manual updates myself in USTREAM for IP Locking

Mark,
The IP Lock on Watershed seems to be broken again. I have added some new IP's to the IP Lock list and saved them but the users cannot view the stream.
Existing IP's that were already in the IP Lock list list can view the stream but it does not seem to be saving new IP's that are added to the lock list. It looks like it is saving the IP's in the lock list on screen but not passing them to the server for implementation with the stream.
Can you please look at this for me? -

Is ios support only through your apps on the pro broadcasting account or will you allow access to m3u8 playlist files?
-
Currently only through our iOS application only but we might make the streams available via a mobile SDK in the future.

Mark,
What is going to happen to monthly payments in the run up to Watershed closing down?
My monthly billing period for Watershed is from the 22nd of the month. The service closes after 10th April, does this mean that I will be billed for 1 month but will have paid for 12 days that I cannot use due to the closure?
Or will the final payments be pro-rata from the billing due date to 10th April inclusive.
I assume there will be customers who do not migrate to USTREAM Pro so this issue will impact on them?
Dushy-
Hi,
Watershed customers are not billed after March 1st, 2013. In the remaining time we are providing the service free of charge. -
-
Mark,
That is an excellent gesture, well done.

I've got some support ticket(s) open regarding other migration/embed issues I've encountered, such as:
(a) 25% of the videos having imported, but the rest didn't. This may require re-importing the videos.
(b) The iPhone app isn't working with the embedded videos, but only with the videos that are public on the UStream.tv website... and the browsers on the iPhone aren't able to play the embed or iframe code, but instead tell the viewer to download the app, with the words, "Open this content in our mobile app [View in app]". If they click on the link to use or download the app, it doesn't do so. By that, I mean that if they don't have the app installed, it will bring up a different URL that doesn't redirect them to the app. If they do have the app installed, then if the video which is to be embedded is marked as private (viewable only on your website), then the app won't have permission to open it. A message will be displayed saying, "Sorry! This record isn't viewable on your device yet, but we're working on it! Please watch from https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/......" But that URL is only designed for public videos... not the kind that you would embed only on your website... so if they go there, they'll see another error message about this video not being available.
(c) Sometimes, the videos / channels marked as private will spontaneously become public. I'm not aware of what would happen to your monthly hours quota if those videos are viewed by the general public. I haven't heard a response back on that ticket. In the meanwhile, test your channel's "public" page with an incognito browser. If the videos suddenly become public, then go to your Embed settings page and hit the submit button again.
I have faith that the 30 day countdown I'm on since starting the migration will be an adequate window for the tech support to assist me, at least with the important issues.
Just be sure that the iframe codes work with your website by testing one, prior to erasing/removing the older embed codes.
