Today we released an update for our popular desktop broadcasting software: Ustream Producer 2.0.2
If you already have Ustream Producer, you can launch the program and you should see a prompt to get the latest version.
If you don't have Producer already installed, you can get the latest version here: https://www.ustream.tv/producer
Producer 2.0.2 has 60+ fixes and improvements, many of them based on your feedback. For a full list of the fixes, download a PDF of the release notes here.
One of the most significant aspects of this update is improved support for USB webcams.
USB webcams are getting better and better, with many models now supporting 720 and 1080 resolutions. Ustream Producer now allows for 16:9 HD capture from many webcams.
In the new version, here's how to get proper 16:9 HD resolution out of compatible webcams. At the moment I'm using 2 Logitech C615's to do this, but you can do it with C910s or the newer C920s as well. You need the Pro version to use two at once, but you can use one at HD resolution (depending on the capability of your computer) in the free version.
Go to Sources > Show Sources Settings
Select your Camera in the menu on the left
Choose the desired capture size. Larger capture sizes can increase picture quality, but may increase CPU or USB bus usage. Smaller capture sizes will have decreased picture quality, but will be lighter on the CPU and USB bus and may allow you to use more cameras. Most important is that you can now capture in proper 16:9 without any stretching using these settings here.
The other important addition is a window to see the status of your USB buses. Previously, Producer would let you hook up multiple USB cameras, but sometimes your computer operating system could not handle all of the incoming data from those cameras. This would result in one or more of the cameras displaying a blue screen and troubleshooting this issue was difficult because you didn't know what was going on. Producer 2.0.2 now has a USB bus management interface which lets you see what cameras are using what bus.
