1Hi,
We are updating our streaming infrastructure and are no longer supporting this.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.
The tool was not widely used and had some issues which limited its utility.
It was based on our old streaming infrastructure which we needed to phase out, so we had to make the decision to drop this feature in favor of moving forward in other areas.
In the future we plan to offer this feature again, but in a way that makes it much more usable and robust than the old version, so I will let you know once we have an update on it!

Are you using the new broadcaster or the old one? The old broadcaster still has the audience tool, but the new broadcaster window don't.

@thenew99jamz - I removed your post because you put your personal phone number and this is a public forum. I assumed you didn't want to display that. :) To answer your question we have removed the co-host feature in our new product release, so I'm sorry it's not available anymore! Please see above for our official comment on this.

you did not properly anwser this questio we need the co host feature and are willing to pay for it please email us a contact number so we can upgrade our u stream account asap and get more info on the co -host button thenew99jamz@yahoo.com..........dj thunder/99jamz thanks

@thenew99jamz, we completely removed it as an available feature, it's not something available in our free or paid products at all at this time. So unfortunately it's not something that you will be able to use for now, even if you were to upgrade.
As Alden said in our official response: "In the future we plan to offer this feature again, but in a way that makes it much more usable and robust than the old version, so I will let you know once we have an update on it!"
Sorry I don't have better news to give. But please stay tuned we will alert you when it's back and better than ever! -

Well the feature was not widely used because people do not the value of the product. I thought yu could have kept the product as a paid service that way people like me can still benefit from it. I factt iam devastated because i depend on cohosting to make my show fun.

Being mobile, I used it to bring in other DJ's internationally. It is sorely missed.

@starlinknetwork & Pirate119 - thank you for letting us know - we've forwarded your messages onto our Product team so they're aware how valuable it was to you.

Very disappointed this feature is no longer available. I planned some very nice shows, and just attempted to run a test setup with an artist, only to find that it is no longer available. :(

Utter rubbish!
"The tool was not widely used and had some issues which limited its utility.

You were either:
a) pressured by the premium pay account holders to remove it as it took traffic away from their stream or,
b) money, it's always about money!
What harm would it have done to leave it in place until you had a replacement module?
Can you provide:
a) usage figures by location and user volumes and,
b) a list of the issues which limited its utility.
Many thanks,-
Hi Frederick
To answer your points here, my original statement is accurate, there is no underlying conspiracy here.
a) pressured by the premium pay account holders to remove it as it took traffic away from their stream or,
b) money, it's always about money!
I'm not sure I understand this theory. Our Pro Broadcasters and / or Premium Members aren't that much different than our free users. Some of them used this feature, most didn't. The ones who didn't probably either didn't know it existed, or didn't find a need for it. I don't see why they would particularly care if someone else had access to it or not. Since it was not widely used, there's not much ground to make an argument that it was "taking away traffic" from their stream and the functionality in of itself wouldn't really have to do anything with how many people would or wouldn't view their stream. Most people choose which streams to watch (or not) based on the content of the programming, not the tools the broadcaster chooses to use. Also, you can still replicate this functionality using Skype or iChat captured into the free version of Producer -- available at https://www.ustream.tv/producer -- so the capability to do this is and always has been available to anyone, regardless of whether or not they pay for a Pro Ustream account or the Pro version of Producer.
What harm would it have done to leave it in place until you had a replacement module?
As I described earlier, it was based on our old streaming infrastructure, so there is something we would call a "maintenance cost." In order to keep it alive, we would have had to keep around a bunch of old servers and keep updating old code to preserve it for the small percentage of people using it. We understand it is greatly disappointing to those people that were using it, but we need to focus our development resources on projects and features that are used by the majority of users and sometimes that means discontinuing lesser-used features.
Can you provide:
a) usage figures by location and user volumes and,
We looked at 1,223,700 broadcasts that occurred in Q4 of 2011.
Of those broadcasts, 1.16% utilized the co-host feature. This means that it was used over 14,000 times during that period. So its not that no one was using it. But as I explained above, sometimes we have to make the hard decision to cut features that are less popular in order to focus development resources on other features which are more widely used.
b) a list of the issues which limited its utility.
1. Probably the worst was the latency between the hosts. It wasn't particularly easy to have a two-way conversation between the co-hosts and then broadcast that to the audience, which is the most common use case.
2. The other issue was more of a technical one. The ability to add the 2nd stream was based on a Flash overlay. If the stream was ever served by one of our CDN partners rather than from our own Flash servers, these Flash overlays wouldn't work. So what this meant was for some of our most popular streams (these are often the ones that are served partially from our CDN partners) the co-hosting couldn't work.
3. Finally, there wasn't really a great interface to invite co-hosts or for potential co-hosts to volunteer. There wasn't enough controls around screening potential co-hosts "offline" to see if you wanted to allow them to participate. We plan to add some of these features in an improved version of the product.
Hope some of this additional context helps explain the decision more. I know it is always very hard to have a feature taken away and it is hard for us to make the decision to cut any features or products because there are always some people who are really making use of them.
As I suggested earlier you can recreate pretty much the same functionality as co-hosting by following the instructions here: http://helpcenter.ustream.tv/content/... or I just did a Google search and also found a user who created a tutorial showing how to do it with the web broadcaster on Mac OSX too: http://educationaltechnology.ca/couro... -

Using the Ustream {free} producer, when I try to do the screen capture with skyp or yahoo messenger, I do not see "Select Screen Region." . When the desktop Presenter opens, I clicked "window" for source, Skyp for application, and my skyp address that shows up in "window".
According to the help page, an area of my screen "should be high lighted", but that is where it stops for me. There is no "high Lighted " area of my screen.
Thanks,

I finally got the high lighted area, but it says to press RETURN to save. How do I do that? There is no RETURN button or anything I can find to do that.
Thanks,

Ok, the IP address is what I was over looking. I have to add that. All good now.

This is garbage. We were going to use this as a live podcasting venue, but guess what everyone! Just head over to Google Hangouts, where you can have EIGHT cohosts! It works great and we were up and running within minutes.
